All tea all shade, THAT IS NORMAL! School ain’t easy and will probably never be. For many it is a completely new experience and for others it’s just a handful. REGARDLESS, I got a solution…DELICIOUS FOOD! Let’s be real, food never fails to uplift our souls from the deep dark depths of anxiety. So, I’m coming in clutch once again with a hip and stylish new goodie to keep the hanger at bay!

With Halloween just around the corner I think it’s more than appropriate to share a spooky yet delicious recipe with y’all! FINGER COOKIES! Release your inner Hannibal Lecter fantasy with these delicious shortbread finger cookies all dressed in raspberry jam blood and sliced almond fingernails. Be prepared to scare the pants off your horrible exes with your amazing baking prowess because this recipe is so simple that even the hottest of messes can’t screw it up.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup of softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
  • Sliced almonds

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. In a larger mixing bowl whisk both the softened butter and sugar until light and pale in colour.
  3. Add the egg and maple syrup into the beaten butter and sugar mixture, whisk until well combined.
  4. Add the flour into the wet ingredients in three batches, mixing in between each batch.
  5. Using 2 tbsp of dough, roll the dough into a finger like shapes. Yields around 25 cookies.
  6. Press a sliced almond into the dough to create a fingernail. Using a knife, cut wrinkle lines around the knuckles and joints of the fingers.
  7. Bake in a preheated 325-degree oven for 15 minutes or until the bottom of each cookie is golden brown.

You can get creative with your best ghoul-friends and transform the dough into different body parts such as ears, noses and eyeballs. Also, with the addition of gel food colouring you can transform the dough into witchy green fingers as well. With a versatile recipe like this you are sure to have a fang-tastic Halloween night!

One thing to keep in mind is that these cookies do spread a little bit in the oven, so when forming your fingers ensure that they are thinner than usual finger before placing them into the oven. Also, if you wanted to add food colouring, it is important to add the gel into the wet ingredients to ensure it is well incorporated.

For decorations, melt some raspberry jam in the microwave and dip each cooled finger cookie in the jam. Using a brush apply some jam around the finger nail area to make the finger look like it’s bleeding.

And with that it is time to SERVE!! Enjoy these little delicacies alongside some spiced hot chocolate on a cold October night because we don’t got a bae to keep us warm at night. ANYWAYS, Happy Halloween hunties!
