Summer dreaming: Innis Herald student spring playlist

Welcome to April: it’s rainy, it’s still a little too cold, and on top of all of that, it’s exam season. Since we’re all counting down the days until the semester is over, this playlist is made for dreaming about warm days at the beach and lazy Summer nights.  Listen to it on Spotify here!

“Summer Air” – ItaloBrothers
If any song deserves to be this Summer’s “Despacito”, it’s “Summer Air” by ItaloBrothers. With electronic vibes and lyrics that you’ll want to sing at the top of your lungs, this song is perfect for pool parties, bonfires, and everything in between.

“Girls” – The 1975
One of the 1975’s most popular songs, “Girls” is the perfect thing to jam to on long car rides. Combining an upbeat rhythm with a mellow feel, this song is the best kind of road trip music.

“Harlem” – New Politics
Grab your friends, a cooler, and your boombox – New Politics’s “Harlem” is the type of head-banging anthem to blast at your next beach party.

“Say It, Just Say It” – The Mowgli’s
Summer isn’t just about relaxing at the beach – it’s also the perfect time for concerts. The Mowgli’s “Say It, Just Say It” is the ideal party-starter that’ll get you in the mood to head out to your favourite Summer music festivals.

“Over & Over” – Smallpools
If there was ever a song to make you feel like you’re in a teenage Summer-fling rom-com, Smallpools’ “Over & Over” would be it. This song will make you feel like you’re in a romantic montage, so go out there and find someone to share it with!

“The Wire” – HAIM
With a strong, toe-tapping rhythm to help you get focused, HAIM’s “The Wire” is exactly what you need to sit down and start getting through all of those books on you Summer reading list.

“Summer in the City” – Freedom Fry
Though Freedom Fry’s song is titled “Summer in the City”, there is nothing more that this song makes you want to do than grab your bike and ride along the coast, staring out at warm sand and open water.

“To Binge” – Gorillaz feat. Little Dragon
Like every song on Gorillaz’s third album, Plastic Beach, “To Binge” was made to be listened to while sitting under the sun with sand between your toes. If you can’t make it to the beach, this is the next best thing.

“Death with Dignity” – Sufjan Stevens
If you’re a fan of “Call Me By Your Name”, you’ll know Sufjan Stevens by heart. His song “Death with Dignity”, despite its morbid title, inspires a sense of fond nostalgia – the kind of thing you’d listen to while laying in freshly cut grass, watching the clouds go by.

“Peach Pit” – Peach Pit
Perfect for winding down a Summer bonfire, “Peach Pit” is a slow song with a strong beat and a catchy tune. It’ll leave you reminiscent of nights under the stars, laughing with your friends.
